KORNAHRENS - I.P. Charleston Soda

Circa 1850-1860 Iron Pontiled Soda - KORNAHRENS, Charleston S. C. - Cornflower Blue

The pontiled Kornahrens soda is scarce and rarely seen for sale in any shade of blue. But when found, it's cobalt or sapphire. This example has a wild icy cornflower blue color - a variant that I've never seen anywhere. Embossing is in a rectangular slug plate, and the top is an applied taper. This is marked down due to a cork pry bruise.

Embossed in rectangular slug: J. L. KORNAHRENS / / CHARLESTON

Color: icy cornflower blue
Height: 7 3/4"
Top: applied taper
Base: iron pontiled with heavy frosting in a very deep push-up. No residue but the pontil scar is vivid.

Structural Condition: as can be seen in the photos, this has a 1/4" x 1/2" bruise and an associated 1/8" hairline in the lip from a cork pry. But there are no associated chips, and the rest of the bottle has no damage.

Surface Condition: very nice overall - with good embossing and some micro bubble character in the glass. It's pretty clean and was probably lightly polish cleaned at some point, retaining just slight dullness and having virtually no wear.
